On behalf of the leadership of the committee, Luke Marsh and Jon Dufalla, and the Environmental Stewardship Workgroup, Steve Catalfamo, we are hosting an Environmental Sampling & Analysis Workshop on Thursday November 5, 2026, at the Blair County Convention Center in Altoona, PA.

This workshop examines the essential elements of properly collecting, documenting, and reporting field and analytical data for water supply sources that are sampled as part of an oil and gas operator’s well readiness program. It also touches on environmental sampling and field screening techniques used in other key environmental programs, including remediation and waste characterization. The platform for this course is the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Sampling and Analysis Plan (SAP) guidance document, supplemented by the Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) Recommended Practice for Pre-drill Water Supply Surveys. This workshop will provide practical guidance on proper sampling and reporting techniques and help standardize collection procedures among different companies. MSC Subject Matter instructors for the workshop have extensive experience in all aspects of sampling, analysis, and reporting.

In addition, we will review the Dissolved Methane in Groundwater Sampling Methodology that the MSC Environmental Stewardship Workgroup engaged in, which is expected to be published by the EPA in 2027.

Finally, attendees will break up into groups and proceed through several hands-on stations covering the sampling and analysis process from start to end, learning from MSC subject matter experts along the way.
