“Mayor Bill Peduto’s call to stop any additional petrochemical development in Western Pennsylvania is short-sighted and an unusual reach of any mayor’s duties. The cracker being built in Beaver County is attracting businesses who will invest billions in private capital, hire local residents, comply with environmental laws and manufacture the consumer, medical and recreational products that we expect to use each and every day.

“Our region needs leaders who recognize this potential and who support the economic growth that a strong petrochemical industry can provide. The mayor’s announcement today is disappointing and an obvious attempt to pander to a select few by endorsing policies that would negatively impact cities and counties far beyond Pittsburgh’s borders.”
