Marietta College’s Center of Earth, Energy & Environment will be hosting a Geothermal Retrofit Workshop on Nov 12th on campus from 9am-1pm with breakfast at 8am and lunch at 12:00.

While high-temperature geothermal resources are limited in Appalachia, lower-temperature formations offer promising opportunities for direct-use heating applications, emerging power technologies, and the repurposing of existing oil and gas infrastructure. As interest in geothermal energy grows, retrofitting oil and gas wells may provide a cost-effective pathway to expanding thermal energy development across the region.

The CEEE Geothermal Retrofit Workshop brings together leaders from industry, academia, and government to explore geothermal resources in Appalachia, thermal energy extraction methods, direct-use applications, and emerging technologies. Discussions will examine how existing energy infrastructure can support geothermal deployment and help meet future energy demands. Operators across Appalachia who have an interest in understanding potential to extract heat from their existing wellbores (and produced fluids) should attend.
