The significance of pipeline safety has grown dramatically in recent years, primarily as a result of the development of the nation’s shale plays and the need for new infrastructure to get gas to market, specifically in the northeast. This growth in development has spurred new regulations from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). Additionally, pipeline construction, integrity and operation management has become increasingly important with the installation of new pipelines to get natural gas to market while navigating the challenging terrain of the Appalachian Basin.

This seminar will include an update on the recent federal pipeline safety developments, operator case studies highlighting safe pipeline construction and integrity management. In addition, representatives from PHMSA will discuss the new Class I Gathering Line Regulations. Lastly, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) and industry experts will provide an update on the Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Workgroup commissioned earlier this year that was tasked with developing a guidance document.
